Creating connections and community among students has been shown to increase their retention and success in school. I will work to do the same for faculty and all members in ICHRIE NENA through supporting and building programs such as Rise and Grind and our Annual Conference. We are living at a time where connection and community is more important than ever and I am thankful for the opportunities of ICHRIE NENA to bring us together.

I am happy to stand again for election for the position of Treasurer! I have enjoyed the opportunity to become more involved with my colleagues in ICHRIE, and NENA in particular. I have a level of enthusiasm that I bring to the position that I hope will continue to strengthen and build our professional community. My goal is to continue to improve the ways in which our federation interacts and functions within ICHRIE, to grow existing relationships and create new ones, and to raise awareness among students of the opportunities that we can provide them to further their opportunities for success.
I am an Assistant Professor of Business Management and Tourism and Hospitality at SUNY Jamestown Community College (JCC). My favorite aspect of my job is sharing my passion for business, hospitality, and tourism; developing and motivating students to be successful in the goals they have set for themselves; and seeing students grow their confidence and their own passion.
My passions are exploring the impact of tourism from a social, environmental, cultural, and ethical perspective, especially the area of dark tourism. Therefore, I love to travel and am always ready to "up and go" if the moment presents itself. I am also passionate about leadership and service quality - what it takes to be a leader and how employees and customers perceive they are being served!
Before joining JCC, I was the program director and instructor for hospitality management at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford. I have spent more than 20 years in the hospitality industry, working with companies such as Marriott, Hilton, Wyndham, and Carlson Hotels in a variety of leadership roles.
My husband and I have nine children and I serve as the president of the Parent Teacher Association for my children’s’ school. In addition, I serve as section editor for the International Journal of Gaming Hospitality and Tourism. I am an active member of the International Council on Hospitality, Restaurant, and Institutional Educators.

Objective: To be the Director of Conferences and Events for the NENA federation where an exceptional ability to communicate, engage, be creative, and collaborative is required. My name is Jennifer Forney and I have been a member of ICHRIE and the NENA Federation for the past nine years and it has been a significant part of my career as an instructor, a program director at the University of Pittsburgh and in my new role as Assistant Professor at SUNY Jamestown Community College. As an active member in NENA, I can make connections, network with colleagues, and form partnerships that may never exist if I was not a member of this organization. Leadership in the NENA federation is something that I take very seriously and something I want to continue being a part of. Qualifications I have had the pleasure of serving as Secretary from 2015-2017. Then from 2019-2021 I served as Vice President, President, and Immediate Past President for NENA. During my tenure, I led a task force that redesigned the roles and responsibilities of the Executive Board and Director positions, and bylaws were updated. These changes were done to better align with CHRIE and to ensure efficiency so we could better serve our members. Another goal during my tenure was to ensure our members recognized the value of their membership. This initiative continued with the new leadership team.
As I served in various roles at the NENA federation level, I have had the opportunity to be a part of the planning process of our regional conferences. The goal to a successful conference is organization, effective communication and promotion, a clear mission/purpose, knowing your audience and how to effectively engage them, but most importantly, creating a memorable experience, in other words, “make them want more.”
In addition to serving on the conference planning committee for NENA, I volunteer for various events in the community. I have served on the Event/Fundraising committee for private catholic school and am currently serving as Festival Chair for our Basilica. This is a major fundraiser event for the church, in previous years the event has raised anywhere from $60,000-$80,000.
What I Can Do for You: Taking on a leadership role in NENA will allow me to continue to forge a path to be more involved and impactful at the federation level, as well as serve as a liaison for the NENA members and CHRIE. As Director of Conference and Events, I will work with members to plan, coordinate, and execute a conference that meets our members needs and provide an opportunity for members to engage, network, collaborate, educate, and learn.
